Selahattin Emre (18 January 1907 – 15 December 1992) was a Turkish poet and scholar who is considered one of the most influential figures in Turkish literature. He was born in the city of Eskişehir, Turkey and studied engineering in Istanbul. However, he eventually left engineering and devoted himself to writing.
Emre published his first book of poetry, "Ayyıldız" (The Crescent Star), in 1930. His poetry was deeply influenced by the works of Rumi, and he became known for his use of Sufi themes and metaphors in his writing. He was also a prolific writer of essays and articles on Turkish literature and culture.
In addition to his writing, Emre was involved in education and taught at various universities in Turkey, including Istanbul University and Ankara University. He was also a member of the Turkish Language Association and the Turkish Literary Society.
Emre was awarded many honors for his contributions to Turkish literature, including the Sedat Simavi Literature Award, Turkey's most prestigious literary award, in 1967. He died in Istanbul in 1992 and is remembered as one of Turkey's greatest poets and cultural figures.
